Cathay Pacific is known for their excellent in-flight service, but that might just be because they love getting passengers liquored up during the journey. “The Cloud Nine” is one of their best signature cocktails, and the combination of Cointreau, Sprite, and vodka will make those long-haul flights just fly by.
Cocktail lovers onboard Cathay Pacific flights have the choice of four libations – two alcoholic, two non-alcoholic. The Cathay Delight, Pacific Sunrise, Oriental Breeze and Cloud Nine are rotated on a monthly basis and are the products of competitions held by the airline and the Hong Kong Bartenders’ Association.
Cloud Nine Cocktail
11/2 shot Absolut vodka
Dash of Cointreau
Juice of half a lemon
Dash of sugar syrup
Handful of mint leaves
Lemonade, to top up (Bedana uses 7-Up)
Coat the rim of a glass with sugar. In a shaker, muddle the mint leaves and squeeze in the lemon juice. Add the liquor and syrup and shake briskly over ice for a few seconds. Pour into the glass and top up with lemonade. Garnish with mint leaves and a slice of lemon.
This was a small variation, but both should work fine.
- 40 ml Cointreau
- 40 ml Vodka
- 7-up or Sprite
- Mint leaves
- Put the ice-cubes in a longdrink glass.
- Poor the Cointreau and the Vodka over the ice-cubes.
- Fill the glass with the 7-up to your own taste and stir the mix.
- Decorate the cocktail with a piece of mint leaves.
- Your cocktail is finished, Enjoy!
I enjoyed it so much I had a few on my flight, couldn’t help but share it on Instagram too 🙂
